Our manual handling training courses are designed to support employees responsible for transporting loads by hand including lifting, putting down, pushing, pulling, carrying or moving. The courses combine our physiotherapy expertise in managing musculoskeletal health with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) training standards for delivery of ‘Manual Handling at Work’.

Study Online

If employees need a flexible way to study, then why not consider one of our manual handling courses online? Most of our manual handling training can be studied online and each course is delivered as a structured, e-learning programme that can be completed at an employees’ own convenience.

Course Objectives

  • To understand your responsibilities and those of your employer.
  • Introduction to the TILEO risk assessment and how using it can improve your health and safety.
  • Introduction to common pain conditions and how to move your body to aid your recovery.
  • To understand the importance of your wellbeing and how that can impact on your work capability.

Course Content

The training is divided into 3 interactive modules and a practical session.

Module 1 – Health & Safety section, understanding the principles of manual handling and HSE guidance.

Module 2 – Common musculoskeletal and pain conditions related to manual handling.

Module 3 – How to use your body to the best of its ability when undertaking manual handling tasks and dispelling myths associated with manual handling.

Additionally, a practical element, undertaking manual tasks relevant to job roles. This is generally an additional 30-40 minutes and can be delivered in person or remotely.

Modules 1 – 3 take approximately 1 hour and include a range of e-Learning interactions and quiz questions. Learners are encouraged to think about policies and procedures in their own workplace and must pass a short multiple-choice assessment to complete the course.

The training programme is accessible on any device that can access the internet. Includes all relevant training materials.

Practical Session

Digital Learning – Online e-learning with ‘face to face’ practical session
The practical session will involve examples of daily tasks completed by the workforce, in the place of work using bespoke equipment. Demonstration, discussion and reflection on different ways that employees lift, carry, push and pull for various tasks to achieve efficient manual handling.

Digital Learning – Online e-learning with virtual practical session
The practical session will involve examples of daily tasks completed by the workforce, with the employees using bespoke equipment and the trainer interacting via Microsoft TEAMs. Demonstration, discussion and reflection on different ways that employees lift, carry, push and pull for various tasks to achieve efficient manual handling.

 

 

Face to Face Delivery to Employees

Course Objectives

Train the Trainer Programme

Course Objectives

  • To be able to define manual handling and teach the application within your company.
  • To teach manual handling principles, risk factors and responsibilities in line with HSE training standards.
  • To understand basic anatomy in order to explain how back pain can be caused by poor manual handling.
  • To teach the concept and application of a basic manual handling risk assessment ‘TILEO’.
  • To teach the application of biomechanical principles.
  • To teach safe and suitable manual handling techniques.
  • To recognise correct and unsuitable manual handling techniques.
  • To competently demonstrate a good understanding of the manual handling training objectives to be delivered.
  • To develop and demonstrate effective communication skills for delivering manual handling training.

Section 2: Anatomy and spinal injuries
Section 3: Practical anatomy
Section 4: Biomechanics of manual handling
Section 5: Manual handling techniques and practical
Section 6: Risk assessment
Section 7: Risk assessment practical
Section 8: Equipment
Section 9: Practical assessment and knowledge test
Section 10: Review training pack and discuss available resources

Benefits

There are a huge number of benefits to this model of training instructors. Instead of relying on one individual to go through a lengthy training process, you can build a team of instructors and enablers so your training initiatives can be accomplished in a shorter amount of time. At the same time, you’re giving your enablers tools concerning not only what to teach, but how to teach.

The Session

Duration: This course takes 1 day to complete and gain your certificate.

Key organisational members, typically line managers, health and safety representatives. The employees chosen to attend this course must have some background knowledge of manual handling theory and principles and must previously have attended at least basic training. Maximum 8 delegates per course.

Certification: On completion of this course, either download your certificate or access at a later date online.
