Why look to Connect for Learning and Development?

23 March 2017

Continued learning and development is important in any profession, but especially a clinical field like physiotherapy where research and new developments mean practitioners are required to keep their methods and knowledge current. In addition, a key focus on developing those colleagues who support practioners and the management of the business is important, to ensure we function and grow effectively.

In order for Connect to meet with the requirements of the business, we have a dedicated Learning and Development team to ensure a greater focus is given on investing in colleague’s development.

Led by Lynne Coulson, Head of Learning, the team sees 2 Business Partners, a Technical Trainer and a Learning and Development Administrator, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience from both a clinical and non-clinical backgrounds.

We asked Lynne what her thoughts were for the future of Learning and Development:

“At Connect, we are committed to providing a holistic learning and development offer which sees a colleague’s learning journey start from the outset; with a structured induction programme, development plans with an understanding of role and individual requirements and regular continuous professional development (CPD) opportunities. It is a really exciting time for Connect and our function can help to support the growth of the company through promoting career paths and looking at opportunities for apprenticeships and student / graduate placements.”

As well as the learning offer for colleagues, a key focus for Connect has been on developing the managers and leaders within the business. This has seen a 9 day Leadership Development programme be rolled out across the organisation covering topics such as; leadership and negotiation, finance and contracts, team and culture, investigation and mediation and strategy.

Culture is extremely important to Connect and we have created a set of values which inform our thoughts, words and actions to enable us to grow as a business.

Lynne concludes with

“As an HR function, we have been working very hard to not only meet but exceed the needs of our colleagues, managers and the industry in terms of our offer. Recent achievements include winning the CIPD North of England SME HR&D 2016 award. We are delighted with these achievements but are committed to continually improving so watch this space…”
