New Year is the perfect time to set resolutions around staying fit and healthy for the year. Cancer Research’s Dry January and Change for Life’s Be Food Smart are both great campaigns to help you eliminate unwanted calories and shed the pounds after the Christmas indulgence, and we’re doing our bit too! To raise awareness of the importance of a healthy balanced diet and exercise, we are kicking of the year with a Healthy Lifestyle month.
This campaign comes after the success of our Stress Less month last November and aims to help our colleagues stay fit and healthy for the year. Colleagues will be provided with helpful exercise tips, food swaps and events to help them stay on track. These include:
- Health checks on-site – During the month Northumbria Healthcare Trust will be coming in to offer free health checks to all colleagues. They will carry out blood pressure checks, BMI and will be able to provide colleagues more information on how to lead a healthier lifestyle.
- Internal exercise class – One of our colleagues at Connect will be running a Tribal Fusion Belly Dance class after work towards the end of January. She is an experienced teacher and holds a PGCE PCET as well as certification and accreditation from the International Dance Council in Tribal Fusion and Oriental dance, and holds weekly dance classes in the Newcastle area. The movement of the dance is low impact and is balanced with cardio and dance physique training, which will help colleagues to stay fit and healthy and show that exercise isn’t always about being on the treadmill!
- Free fruit – We’ll be providing our head office colleagues with free fruit on a weekly basis throughout January.
- Healthy recipes and tips – We’ve put together a collection of Slimming World recipes, which colleagues can access in our kitchen area or on our internal intranet.
This campaign will be the kick-start to encourage colleagues to maintain a healthy lifestyle throughout the year, with a physical exercise campaign to follow later in the year. Watch this space!
